What inspired your family members to choose FPS across generations? (i.e. traditions, a particular experience, or a shared value):
My dad grew up in Fargo and attended Agassiz and then Central. We lived close by Fargo South and attended school there. My husband Vic attended North High. Both of us have taught in FPS. Vic still teaches at South. There was no doubt that our kids would Fargo Public Schools. We are big supporters of public schools. I attended Lewis and Clark, Agassiz and South. Our kids attended Clara Barton Hawthorne, Carl Ben and Fargo South. My husband moved to Fargo and attended Fargo North. My siblings also attended Lewis and Clark, Agassiz and graduated from Fargo South.

How did your time at FPS influence the personal or professional journeys of your family members?
With both my husband and I teaching in Fargo Public Schools (we also both coached) it made us feel proud to teach in the system we grew up being educated in. As parents we felt proud to have our children educated in Fargo Public Schools. They were involved in so many activities that the school district offered to students. Also the courses that were offered in the 1980's and what the school currently offers are outstanding. My favorite class was Sewing with Mrs. Armbrust. Our kids were involved in music including orchestra and band. How fun is it that our children had Mrs. Burgraff teach them how to play string instruments just like she taught me so many years ago.

In what ways has attending the same schools in FPS created a stronger bond within your family?
Our kids were fortunate to attend Hawthorne and Clara Barton Schools. The small environment and exceptional teachers made the start of their education a strong one. Our entire family felt and still feels part of that community. One of the most unique and strongest ways was for our kids to attend the school that my husband and their dad taught at during the time they attended South. Special memories for all generations of our family include ice skating at the South High Rink (now the football field), our kids loved skating at Clara Barton. Another special memory for our kids when they were younger were running around the track at Cheney Field and picking lilacs from the huge lilac bushes by Cheney Field. (now Carl Ben Middle School).

Any special memories or reflections that highlight the significance of this shared experience?
I graduated the class of 1982 from South. I played the violin and was a swimmer and played tennis for the Bruins. My husband Vic, graduated from North in 1981 and also played the violin and played tennis at North. He went on to coach Fargo South Tennis a number of years for the district. I was an assistant tennis coach for South for a few years. We met at a tennis meet and have been married 30 years. Another special highlight was that when I attended Lewis and Clark Mr. Olgard was the principal. My first year teaching in Fargo I was able to teach under Roger Olgard.
