Enlisted in the US Navy and went on active duty during the summer of 1958. Joined the commissioning crew of the USS Cape in the Pacific Fleet in 1959, went to sea, and later successfully past the qualifications for the rate of Radioman Second Class Petty Officer. Upon successfully completing the fleet-wide examination, was transferred to the Naval Academy Preparatory School and entered the Naval Academy in July of 1960. After graduation from the Academy and being commissioned as an Ensign in the Navy, served on two Atlantic fleet destroyers over a four year period. After a one year mandatory commission extension, spent one year ashore in Viet Nam. After commission resignation, spent the next fifty hears in engineering and management positions in manufacturing, product development and banknote printing industries. Foreign languages used during these years included conversational Polish and Spanish. Spent many semi-retirement years in the home building industry.
